How Do You Fix A Gamecube Disc Read Error?

Not many posts here so I hope I can get an answer. Everytime I try to play my Gamecube, I get a Gamecube disk read error. What does that mean and how can I fix it?

It means the Gamecube can't read the disk. It could just be that your laser lens is dirty. Wet a q-tip with soft or filtered water and wipe the lens gently. Use a dry q-tip to dry it and see if that fixes your problem.

 I did that and I still am getting the error.

 Use alcohol instead of water.

Check your game disk and make sure it's not got any sticky substances on it, smudges or is dirty. That can cause the error.

Did all those things, same error.  Do I send it in to Nintendo for repairs, since I doubt I'll be able to fix this myself.

Getting youyr Gamecube repaired by Nintendo is $50.00 minimum. And I don't think that includes shipping. Check the Nintendo website. Or take it to a game shop where they fix game systems. The'll evaluate and fix it for you for about 40 to 45 bucks. Save yourself the hassle of trying to fix it yourself.

Well that's not very much better than $50.00 is it? For $50.00 I think I'll just stay with my N64.

Nintendo doesn't support the old system anymore. If you're still having problems after cleaning lens and disk, take it or send it to a repair shop. I recommend this one. The NES Repair Shop. $40 dollars is over the top, The NES Repair shop will fix it (any problem at all) for $29.00 and guarantee the repairs.

They are the people who run this forum and I can tell you from personal experience, they give excellent service. I buy all my parts from them and they give "outstanding" service and unheard of turnaround times. You'll lave your Gamecube back in a week or less with whatever was wrong fixed. Even burnt out lasers.

You can open the Cube and turn the voltage up.

Or buy one on ebay, they're pretty cheap now with the introduction of the Wii.
